The iPhone 6 Plus was Apple's first 5.5-inch "Plus" phablet, unveiled alongside the smaller 4.7-inch iPhone 6 on September 9, 2014 and released on September 19. Its headline feature was a larger 5.5-inch 1080p Retina HD display (401 ppi) paired with a substantially bigger 2915 mAh battery. Crucially, optical image stabilization on the rear camera was exclusive to the Plus; the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 lacked it.
Both models shared the same Apple A8 chip with the M8 motion co-processor, and both debuted NFC and Apple Pay for the iPhone line. The 6 Plus carried the same 8 MP rear camera (with Focus Pixels phase-detection autofocus) and 1.2 MP front camera, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, and aluminium unibody construction in Space Gray, Silver, and Gold.
The phone's size made one-handed use awkward for some, and shortly after launch reports of the chassis bending under pressure became the "Bendgate" controversy; Apple's internal tests later showed the 6 Plus was significantly more prone to bending than its predecessors. Some units also suffered faulty camera OIS, prompting a repair program. From about $749.
