The iPhone 8 Plus paired Apple's dual 12 MP camera system, a wide f/1.8 lens with OIS alongside an f/2.8 telephoto for 2x optical zoom, with the new Portrait Lighting feature driven by the A11 Bionic chip. For the first time on an iPhone, a glass back replaced the all-aluminium housing, enabling Qi inductive wireless charging. The A11 Bionic also brought a substantial jump in performance and image processing over the iPhone 7 Plus.

The phone kept the familiar formula: Touch ID and the physical home button, a 5.5-inch LCD Retina HD display with True Tone, and IP67 dust and water resistance. It shipped with iOS 11 and remained supported through iOS 16. Storage came in 64 and 256 GB, backed by 3 GB of RAM.

The 8 Plus launched alongside the radically redesigned, edge-to-edge iPhone X, which overshadowed it, and it proved to be the last big home-button iPhone. As the larger sibling of the iPhone 8 and the successor to the iPhone 7 Plus, it was an incremental but solid update for buyers who preferred the established design. From about $799.
