The iPhone 6S Plus is the 5.5-inch flagship of Apple's ninth-generation iPhone lineup, announced on September 9, 2015 and released on September 25. It introduces 3D Touch, a pressure-sensitive display layer that adds Peek and Pop gestures, alongside a new 12 MP rear camera with optical image stabilization, 4K video at 30fps, and Live Photos. The front camera jumps to 5 MP with a Retina Flash that uses the display as a flash.
The chassis is built from stronger 7000-series aluminium in response to the earlier bending complaints, and is powered by the 64-bit Apple A9 chip paired with the M9 motion coprocessor. It was the first iPhone to debut the Rose Gold colour option, alongside Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. Storage spans 16, 32, 64, and 128 GB, and the larger body houses a 2750 mAh battery.
The trade-off for the strengthened build and new hardware is weight: at 192 g the 6S Plus is noticeably heavier than the 172 g iPhone 6 Plus it replaces. It is the larger sibling of the iPhone 6S, succeeds the iPhone 6 Plus, and was itself succeeded by the iPhone 7 Plus. From about $749.
