The iPhone 8 was Apple's 2017 mainstream flagship, launched in the shadow of the iPhone X. Its headline change was a glass back — bringing Qi wireless charging to iPhone for the first time — and the powerful new A11 Bionic chip shared with the X.

It added a True Tone display and USB-PD fast charging while keeping the familiar 4.7-inch LCD, Touch ID and Home button. In effect it was the last of the classic home-button iPhones in the main line (the SE aside).

The iPhone X stole the spotlight with Face ID; the 8's affordable LCD lineage continued the next year as the iPhone XR. Launched at about $699.
