The iPhone 14 was Apple's 2022 mainstream flagship and, unusually, a modest one. Externally identical to the 13, it reused the A15 Bionic (in the 5-core-GPU form from the 13 Pro) — the first flagship since 2008 to carry over a chip year-on-year.
The meaningful additions were safety features: Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via satellite. The front camera gained autofocus, and the main sensor improved in low light. Apple kept the notch here — the Dynamic Island stayed exclusive to the 14 Pro that year — and dropped the mini for the larger 14 Plus.
It was the last standard iPhone with a Lightning port, and US units went eSIM-only. The 15 that followed brought the Dynamic Island, a 48MP camera and USB-C. The 14 is a safe, incremental used pick. From about $799.
