The iPhone 12 was Apple's 2020 mainstream flagship and the biggest leap the standard line had seen in years. It was the first base iPhone with an OLED screen — a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR that finally matched the Pro's deep blacks and sharpness, replacing the 11's LCD.
It also brought the flat-edged redesign, a tougher Ceramic Shield front, 5G, and MagSafe magnetic charging, all on the 5nm A14 Bionic. The dual 12MP camera carried over with Night mode on both lenses.
It runs at 60Hz with a Lightning port, and its slim 2815mAh battery is the weakest of this group. The 13 that followed added a bigger battery and sensor-shift stabilisation. For the OLED upgrade and 5G at a low used price, the 12 is a sweet spot. From about $799.
