The iPhone 12 mini was the smallest and lightest 5G smartphone of its generation, packing the full iPhone 12 feature set into a 5.4-inch body that weighed roughly 135 g. It shared the same Apple A14 Bionic chip, the Super Retina XDR OLED display (just smaller, at 1080x2340 and 476 ppi), the dual 12 MP wide and ultrawide camera system, sub-6 GHz 5G, MagSafe magnetic charging, and the Ceramic Shield front glass introduced across the line, alongside an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance.
For buyers who wanted a genuinely compact flagship, it was almost without compromise on paper. The one real trade-off was endurance: the small chassis left room for only a 2227 mAh battery, rated for up to about 15 hours of video, noticeably less than the standard iPhone 12. That weaker battery life, combined with a market that had shifted toward larger screens, meant the mini sold poorly relative to its siblings and the small-flagship experiment was short-lived.
It launched on November 13, 2020, in Black, White, Product Red, Green, Blue, and later Purple, with 64, 128, and 256 GB storage options. From about $699.
