The iPhone 13 mini, announced on September 14, 2021 and released on September 24, was the last small 5.4-inch flagship Apple shipped. It paired a compact Super Retina XDR OLED display with the new A15 Bionic chip, putting full flagship performance in a phone that fit easily in one hand.
Compared with the iPhone 12 mini it improved in the areas that mattered most for a small phone: a larger 2438 mAh battery for noticeably longer runtime, sensor-shift optical image stabilization on the main camera, and a redesigned diagonal dual-camera array housing larger sensors. It also added Cinematic mode for rack-focus video, Photographic Styles, a 512 GB storage option and Smart HDR 4 on the A15.
Despite the upgrades, the mini form factor never sold well, and weak demand for both the 12 mini and 13 mini led Apple to end the line after this model; the iPhone 14 had no mini variant. As the final small flagship, the 13 mini remains the go-to choice for buyers who want a genuinely compact modern iPhone. From about $699.
