The iPhone 16 is Apple's 2024 base-model 6.1-inch flagship, and the first standard iPhone to add the new Camera Control button and the Action button that were previously reserved for the Pro line. It was built from the ground up for Apple Intelligence, Apple's on-device generative AI, and runs on the Apple A18 chip - a Pro-class chip generation brought down to the base phone, delivering roughly 30 percent faster processing and 40 percent faster graphics than the A16 in the iPhone 15.
The camera system pairs a 48 MP Fusion wide sensor with a 12 MP ultrawide in a new vertical layout, returning the lenses to a stacked arrangement to enable spatial photo and video capture. Connectivity steps up to Wi-Fi 7, and the phone ships with iOS 18 (upgradable to iOS 26). Apple Intelligence features, the Action button, MagSafe and 5G round out the package.
The trade-offs are real and worth being honest about: the display stays at a 60 Hz refresh rate while many cheaper rivals offer faster screens, and despite the USB Type-C port the data speed remains USB 2.0. From about $799.
