The iPhone 17 is the standard model of Apple's 2025 lineup, announced on September 9, 2025 and released on September 19, 2025 alongside the iPhone Air and the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Its headline change is the display: a larger 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED panel that finally brings 120Hz ProMotion and an always-on screen to a non-Pro iPhone for the first time, with brightness reaching up to 3000 nits at peak and protection from the new Ceramic Shield 2. The body keeps an aluminium frame and glass back, carries IP68 dust and water resistance, and weighs 177 g.
Inside is the Apple A19 chip with 8 GB of RAM, paired with Apple's new N1 networking chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon X80 modem for 5G. Storage starts at 256 GB and tops out at 512 GB, dropping the 128 GB tier of the iPhone 16. The phone ships with iOS 26 and is built around Apple Intelligence.
The camera system is a dual 48 MP Fusion setup, pairing a 48 MP main lens with a 48 MP ultrawide and offering a 2x optical-quality in-sensor zoom, with 4K Dolby Vision video and features such as Camera Control and Photographic Styles. The front gains an 18 MP Center Stage camera with Dual Capture. It charges over USB-C and supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging, and comes in Lavender, Sage, Mist Blue, White, and Black. From about $799.
