The iPhone 17 Pro Max is Apple's 2025 flagship, and its biggest camera and battery step in years. The headline is the redesigned 48MP tetraprism telephoto: it reaches a 200mm-equivalent 8x optical-quality zoom — the longest ever on an iPhone — next to 48MP main and ultrawide cameras, so all three rear lenses now capture full-resolution detail.
Power comes from the new A19 Pro chip, paired with a 6.9-inch 120Hz LTPO OLED that climbs to 3000 nits in sunlight. Apple rates it for up to 39 hours of video playback — the longest-lasting iPhone yet — helped by the aluminium unibody redesign and the larger body.
It is unapologetically a pro phone, with the trade-offs to match. At 233g it is heavy; it is eSIM-only with no physical SIM tray in most regions; there is no headphone jack; and storage now tops out at a new 2TB tier, at a price to match (from about $1,199). If you want the best iPhone camera and battery and don't mind the size or cost, this is the one. If you mostly want a great phone, the smaller 17 Pro covers most of the same ground for less.
