The iPhone 15 Pro Max was Apple's 2023 large flagship and the biggest Pro redesign since the iPhone 12. It replaced stainless steel with a grade-5 titanium frame — cutting weight to 221g, the lightest Pro Max in years — and finally swapped Lightning for USB-C with fast USB 3 (10Gbps) transfers.
Its standout was a new 5x tetraprism telephoto, a 120mm reach exclusive to the Pro Max that quadrupled the optical zoom range versus the 14 Pro Max's 3x. The customisable Action button replaced the mute switch, and the A17 Pro — Apple's first 3nm chip — added hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
The 6.7-inch 120Hz always-on OLED and 48MP main carry over. A year later the 16 Pro Max grew to 6.9 inches and added the Camera Control button. For titanium, USB-C and 5x zoom at a lower price, the 15 Pro Max is the value pick. From about $1,199.
